Comm. Students Making Waves

Hello everyone,

Communication students have been making tons of headlines this week. First, Matt Teleha for his national award from the National Broadcasting Society, which can be read here and the video seen below, as well as Alicia Cagle who was named a Newman Civic Fellow for her dedication to service, which can be seen here.

Congrats to both Matt and Alicia on a job well done!

New York, NY

Hello everyone,

I am back at Mercyhurst and now hustling to get caught up with all of my classes, but who can complain after a week in New York City. While I have attached plenty of pictures below, I just want to explain the convention and give you a bit of play-by-play.

Essentially, this past weekend we took eight people to New York City for the 70th annual National Broadcasting Society Convention. This is a four day event that includes speakers, networking, site seeing and slew of other things. Wednesday night was the keynote speaker, which included two speakers, one which worked for MTV / Viacom and the other is an anchor on the MLB channel. Thursday and Friday were left open for facility tours and site seeing.

On Thursday, we got to go to the World Trade Center Memorial, Chinatown, Little Italy, the Strand Bookstore, Central Park and Time Square. We had dinner at Tony's right off of Time Square, enjoyed Toys R Us and did the Cupid Shuffle in the M&M store, though luckily, I don't think anyone got a picture of that. Friday included the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, along with a bakery called, "Babycakes" (Don't ask, just Google it).

Throughout the week I attended business meetings, which included the organizational business of maintaining a non-profit organization. Saturday morning we voted on the new board members and attended sessions on positioning, social media, young professionals and leadership. Every year I go to these things and I always take some resounding message back from them, which this year is the theme of video. While I've made the promise of videos in the past, I've let things get in the way of that, but not anymore. It is all of your jobs to keep me working on that. :-)

Please check out the pictures below, and thanks for reading!

Check Me Out Online

Hello everyone,

So, I have been working on putting up my new online profile for the last year. The original idea came from the Communication Department professor Meghan Corbin in her Communication Techniques class (which you all should take). I created one version for her class last year and over the last year I complete overhauled it and made it something I am proud of.

So now, ladies and gentlemen, for the first time I unveil to you the ALL NEW josephpudlick.com! While this does display a lot of personal information, this also shows you all the cool things you could be doing over your next four years.

This blog brought to you from New York City. Standby for updates on my trip coming early next week!

St. Patty's Spectacular

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great weekend. With St. Patty's Day, there was lots going on on campus this weekend. All day Saturday there were things for people to do, including a lacrosse game, ice skating in the rink and a free traditional Irish dinner in the Student Union.

There was also a lot going on downtown. MSG hired a bus to run down state street all day Saturday, which allowed students safe access to the downtown bars and the annual St. Patty's Day parade. Below is a picture of me taken at the Plymouth in downtown Erie, can you find me?

Stay tuned for pictures and information from New York City. Our National Broadcasting Society Club will be traveling there on Wednesday. Also, I've very excited to premier my all new website and I want you all to be the first to see it, so keep your eyes pealed!

Have a great week!

Busy Weekend at the Hurst

Hello Everyone,

I have two big events to report about from this weekend, but before that let's talk about this weather. So gosh darn B-E-A-UTIFUL! I'm am enjoying the cool spring breeze in my dorm room as a write this.
Garvey Park - Students enjoying the beautiful weather
So, while this weather is beautiful, the Mercyhurst Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America host their first Frozen Putt-A-Thon on Saturday. The event was far from frozen, but it was still a great opportunity for our members to have a practical learning experience with media relations, event planning, brand creation and management, and dealing with corporate sponsorships. This is an event that we hope to continue to grow in the next couple years and really make a staple in the Erie area.
Also this weekend, today we held the annual Mercyhurst Ambassadors Spring Tea event in Christ the King Chapel. This year, after 20 weeks of hard work, we inducted 28 new Ambassadors and celebrated the work of our more than 25 graduating seniors. Just a beautiful day to celebrate a great and ambitious club.

That really is the extent of my weekend. On the professional side of things, I currently have interviews in with Cedar Point, Six Flags Great America and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Cross your fingers and say a prayer for the best. I'd really appreciate it. :)

Happy Sunday!

Spring Break

Hello Everyone,

I never foresaw myself as being an extravagant spring break taker, but after two miraculous years in a row, I guess I can no longer say that. Last year I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Park City, Utah (essentially Salt Lake City) and ski for four days. This year, my girlfriend and I went from D.C. to Boston looking at grad schools. More productive than most people's breaks, I must say, but fun nonetheless.

In D.C., we visited my aunt and uncle and stayed with her aunt and uncle. I looked at Georgetown and American, and she looked at George Mason and American. Georgetown does not have an accredited communication program :-( so they're out and American is probably my number two after a Boston school. I'm not sure what the girly is thinking.

Boston was AMAZING, just like a little town that grew up over night. I looked at Emerson College and Boston University, while the girly looked at Simmons College and Boston College. BU is not the place for me, but Emerson is definitely my number one, hence why there are pictures below. It's just all about creativity and I love it. :-) Overall, it's interesting that the setting of Emerson is completely opposite of Mercyhurst.

I thoroughly enjoyed my college visits, but now am happily home in McAuley Hall. I don't every think I'll find a home as relaxed, comfortable and cozy as Mercyhurst, but then again every once in a while you need to break out for your box and go for the outlandish. Mercyhurst will be hard to leave, but I still have a year to worry about that. :-)
